Annually, in the United States alone:

  • 53,000 people will be newly diagnosed with oral cancer

  • 71% of those oral cancers are found in the late stages (III and IV)

  • Over 10,000 deaths occur due to late-stage diagnosis

  • Men are twice as likely as women to develop oral cancer

Oral cancer is known as one of the most destructive cancers because treatments, especially when it is caught in the late stages.  In some cases, it can lead to significant quality of life issues.  

Peach Family Dentistry is dedicated to prevent oral cancer by conducting routine screenings.  An annual screening is quick and painless! Our team recommends the OralID® light that detects cellular changes that may be  manifesting - even before the naked eye. Usually, when cellular changes can be seen, oral cancer is likely at a more advanced stage.

Risk factors of oral cancer:

  • Alcohol

  • Tobacco

  • 40 years of age or older

  • Genetics

  • Sexual activity that may have had exposure to HPV
